Every day millions of licensed Americans legally carry concealed handguns in movie theaters, office buildings, shopping malls, banks, churches, etc.
Numerous studies show that concealed handgun license holders are five times less likely than non-license holders to commit violent crimes.
Campus "gun free zones" may make some people feel safer, but as recent events demonstrate, feeling safe is not the same as being safe.

More Fox News Coverage of the Issue of Concealed Carry on College Campuses
Judge Napolitano is mistaken about the facts of the 1966 University of Texas sniper attack. It is true that numerous students and faculty members retrieved hunting rifles from campus housing and vehicles and returned fire on the sniper, forcing him to keep his head down for over seventy minutes while an armed civilian and two police officers stormed the top of the bell tower where he'd taken position. However, contrary to Judge Napolitano's statement, it was actually one of the police officers, not the civilian, who shot and killed the assailant. You can read more about the 1966 UT sniper attack in THIS short op-ed piece from The Washington Times and in THIS lengthy article from Texas Monthly.

4/21/2008 - THE EMPTY HOLSTER PROTEST IS HERE
SCCC's second national collegiate Empty Holster Protest starts today.
During the week of April 21-25, 2008, thousands of college students throughout the United States, organized under the banner of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus (SCCC), will attend classes wearing empty holsters, in protest of state laws and school policies that stack the odds in favor of dangerous criminals and armed killers by disarming law abiding citizens licensed to carry concealed handguns virtually everywhere else.
SCCC hosted its first national collegiate Empty Holster Protest during the week of October 22-26, 2007, on the campuses of approximately 125 U.S. colleges and universities. This second Empty Holster Protest will expand upon the concept of the first protest by placing greater emphasis on educating the uninformed. Protesters will focus on sharing the facts of "concealed carry" with students and faculty who may not be aware that concealed carry laws exist or that those laws differ on college campuses from most other locations.
CLICK HERE to read the official press release.
CLICK HERE to read the protest guidelines.
CLICK HERE to RSVP for the protest via Facebook.
As of the start of the protest, SCCC has almost 28,500 members (approximately 90% college students and 10% faculty, parents, and concerned citizens). SCCC has members in all fifty states and the District of Columbia, as well as a few members from foreign countries such as Canada, England, and Israel. SCCC has organized chapters on approximately 350 U.S. college campuses and members at hundreds of colleges without organized chapters. Over 3,600 of SCCC's members, from more than 600 campuses, have RSVP'd their intent to participate in the Empty Holster Protest. Though most of the campuses without organized SCCC chapters will host only one or two protesters, many of the schools with organized chapters will host a dozen or more. Several of SCCC's most active campuses, such as Texas State University, Virginia Tech, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Cincinnati, will play host to several dozen protesters each.
The two purposes of an Empty Holster Protest are:
1. To represent to the public that students, faculty, and guests on college campuses are left defenseless or, metaphorically, with empty holsters.
2. To start a dialogue with students and faculty members who may not know the facts of the issue.
For more information on the Empty Holster Protest or SCCC's activities in your area, contact your school's campus leader or the regional director for your area.

4/18/2008 - SCCC ON NBC NIGHTLY NEWS
The SCCC Segment on Tonights Edition of NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams
Tonight's edition of NBC Nightly News featured a short segment on Students for Concealed Carry on Campus. The counterpoint to SCCC's position that concealed carry should be allowed on college campuses was delivered by Lori Haas, the mother of surviving Virginia Tech victim Emily Haas
Though we're not sure why Emily's mother, rather than Emily, was chosen to rebut our arguments, we do find it ironic that her rebuttal hinged on the notion that the Virginia Tech shooter "had the element of surprise," since it was Emily who recounted to CNN, five days after the shooting, how she hid under a desk listening to gunshots, "waiting and hoping" the shooter wouldn't come into her classroom.
Lori Haas's claim that students in the midst of a school shooting would be too paralyzed by fear to use handguns in self-defense lacks credibility in light of the fact that her daughter wasn't too paralyzed by fear to call 911 on her cell phone. Emily was still on the phone with the 911 operator several minutes later when the gunman entered the room. Though Emily survived with only superficial gunshot wounds, her professor and ten of her classmates lost their lives.
Twenty-eight of the thirty victims killed in Norris Hall were shot in the head at pointblank range. Some were shot four or five times. After the attack, survivors recalled watching the shooter pause occasionally to reload one of his guns. The Virginia Tech shooting was not a sudden blitzkrieg attack that was over before anyone knew what was happening; it was a nine-minute, uncontested execution-style massacre. Many of the people in those classrooms, like Emily, were left with no recourse but to listen to the nearby gunshots and hope for the best. They didn't need lightning fast reflexes or deadeye accuracy or years of specialized training; they just needed the means to defend themselves against a deranged killer who had no regard for school policy, state law, or the sanctity of human life.

4/16/2008 - ONE YEAR LATER

Drop out of school," he is stepping up the rhetoric. Not content with encouraging college students to forgo their educations rather than fight for a cause in which they believe, Mr. Hamm has resorted to baseless conspiracy theories and slander.

After careful deliberation SCCC has decided to fully endorse Georgia House Bill 915, also known as the "Second Amendment Protection Act of 2008," sponsored by state representative Timothy Bearden of Georgia's 68th district.
This bill, pre-filed by Representative Bearden on December 26, 2007, will be introduced to the people of the great state of Georgia at 10 AM on Thursday, January 10, 2008, at a gun rights rally on the steps of the Georgia state capitol building. All Georgia SCCC members are encouraged to attend.
Among the many logical provisions of this bill, it will remove technical schools, vocational schools, colleges, universities, and institutions of postsecondary education from the list of places where concealed handgun license (CHL)/concealed carry weapons permit (CCW)/concealed handgun permit (CHP) holders are prohibited from carrying concealed handguns, in the state of Georgia.

SCCC would also like to commend New Life Church, its volunteer security team, and specifically Jeanne Assam for taking the steps necessary to protect innocent lives. Our appreciation also goes out to Colorado lawmakers for not arbitrarily including "churches," as many states do, on the list of places off-limits to concealed carry. This tragic incident was mitigated by the sound judgment of state legislators and church officials, as well as the diligent work of the New Life Church volunteer security team and the quick action of volunteer security officer Jeanne Assam.

12/07/2007 – WESTROADS MALL IS A "GUN FREE" ZONE
Streak of Mass Shootings in "Gun Free" Zones Continues
As was the case with the mass shootings at Virginia Tech, Columbine High School, the Luby's Cafeteria in Texas, the McDonald's in California, and multiple postal facilities throughout the country, Westroads Mall, the site of America's most recent mass shooting, is a "gun free zone," off-limits to concealed handgun license (CHL)/concealed carry weapons permit (CCW) holders. Once again, helpless victims, at the mercy of a lunatic with no regard for posted signs, were left with no choice but to wait and hope the rampaging killer wouldn't find them. For thirteen unfortunate individuals (8 dead, 5 wounded), waiting and hoping weren't enough.

SCCC Membership Sets New Record
Students for Concealed Carry on Campus now has over 7,000 members nationwide.
Thought for the Day
1. an accommodation in which both sides make
concessions
Proponents of gun control typically argue that gun owners should
be required to undergo training, testing, expanded background checks, and
licensing.
Proponents of gun rights typically argue that gun owners should
be allowed to carry handguns in public, for self-defense.
Concealed carry laws allow gun owners who undergo training,
testing, expanded background checks, and licensing to carry handguns in
public, for self-defense.
When both sides give a little and both sides get a little, that
is the true definition of compromise.
Who is more willing to compromise--groups like Students for
Concealed Carry on Campus who support licensed concealed carry or groups like
The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence who oppose licensed concealed carry?
Hint: It's not the group whose president went on Fox News this morning and referred to his opposition as people who like to "dress up" to "feel more masculine." It's also not the group whose spokesman told Fox News yesterday that college students who oppose his position on the issue of concealed carry on college campuses should "drop out of school."

10/22/2007 – THE EMPTY HOLSTER PROTEST BEGINS!
The Empty Holster Protest
During the week of October
22-26, participating students and faculty at over 110 colleges and universities throughout America will wear empty holsters on campus,
in protest of state laws and school policies that stack the odds in favor of
armed killers by disarming law abiding citizens licensed to carry concealed
handguns virtually everywhere else (movie theaters, office buildings, shopping
malls, etc).
The symbolic point of the
Empty Holster Protest is to represent that students, faculty, and guests on
college campuses are left defenseless (with nothing but empty holsters) by
state laws and school policies that refuse to afford concealed handgun license
holders the same rights on college campuses that they are afforded virtually
everywhere else.
The practical point of the
Empty Holster Protest is to encourage a dialogue between protesters and
individuals who may not know the facts of concealed carry.
The Official Empty Holster
Protest Press Release
Answers to the Most Common
Arguments Against Concealed Carry on College Campuses
PROTEST GUIDELINES:
1. Do not carry ANYTHING in your holster. Some members have suggested the idea
of carrying cell phones or other personal items in their holsters, as a way of
showing that the holsters themselves are harmless; however, SCCC strongly discourages
against doing so. Aside from the fact that a casual observer’s overactive
imagination might lead him or her to believe that the item in your holster is
actually a gun, carrying something in your holster detracts from the
protest’s statement. The point of wearing EMPTY holsters is symbolic, so
please don’t confuse the issue by placing anything in your holster.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER SHOULD YOU, AT ANY TIME, PLACE ANYTHING IN
YOUR HOLSTER THAT LOOKS EVEN REMOTELY LIKE A FIREARM!
2. If your holster has a top flap designed to cover a pistol, please find a way
to pin or tie that flap open so that it is readily apparent that your holster
is empty.
3. As long as you’re wearing a holster and/or a ConcealedCampus.com
T-shirt, leave your temper at home. Part of the price for standing up for your
beliefs is facing ridicule from those who disagree. Remain calm at all times.
Act dignified and professional at all times. No matter what anyone says to you,
be the bigger person.
4. If, at anytime during the protest, a member of the opposition “crosses
the line,” notify the appropriate authorities immediately. Though facing
ridicule is part of the price for standing up for your beliefs, giving up your
basic human rights is not part of that price. If anyone threatens you with any
illegal action (violent or non-violent), IMMEDIATELY notify campus or local
police. If a professor suggests that your participation in the protest may
somehow negatively affect your grade in his or her class, notify your school administration.
5. No protester should, under any circumstances, wear a holster onto the campus
of any high school, junior high, middle school, or elementary school. This
protest is about concealed carry by licensed individuals on college campuses.
The agenda of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus does not encompass similar
issues affecting primary and secondary schools.
6. Use your best judgment at all times. The organizers of this protest cannot
foresee every possible scenario. If you encounter a situation for which you are
not prepared, think through it, and use your best judgment.

- BREAKING: Texas
Governor Supports Concealed Carry on Campuses
While people across the country have called for gun control in the wake
of Virginia Tech, Texas Gov. Rick Perry
called for gun freedom Monday. Perry met with U.S. Health and Human Services
Secretary Michael Leavitt, who is traveling the country to decide how the
government can prepare schools for these types of situations.
Perry said
"I think a person ought to be able to carry their weapon with them anywhere in this state if they are licensed, and they have gone through the training," Perry said.
When Perry said anywhere in the state, he meant it.
"Whether
they're in church or whether they're on
a college campus or wherever they are," Perry added.
"The last time I checked, putting up a sign that says, 'Don't bring your
gun in here,' for someone who has ill intent on their mind, they could (not)
care less."

As students, parents and citizens we demand our State Legislatures recognize
our right to defend ourselves on college campuses across the nation.
School shootings and violence will never be stopped. As individuals and concerned citizens we deserve the right to defend ourselves even when we are on campus.
We are licensed by our State Governments to carry handguns to protect ourselves but they tie our hands at school. We are adults who have taken on the responsibility to carry concealed weapons to defend ourselves. We are not criminals. We are not crazy. We are citizens who have proved that we are capable of being responsible carrying weapons in public.
